Norfolk, VA – January 3rd, 2019 — In an effort to increase sustainability efforts and evolve into more can offerings, O’Connor Brewing Company announces a new in-house canning line. In 2018, it was impossible not to notice the huge can movement happening in craft beer.
“Cans are now becoming the vessel of choice amongst younger, more discerning millennials, but is also being embraced by our older demographic who are used to buying craft beer in bottles,” said Kevin O’Connor, owner and founder of O’Connor Brewing Company. “Part of our mission is to evolve and to keep giving the people what they want, so we are excited to jump in and get crazy with this new canning line,” added O’Connor.
This means brewing more unique and unexpected styles such as their Neutral Buoyancy Imperial Milk Stout (being released in January), a heavy-hitting 11% stout brewed with black currants and raspberry (yum). Other small-batch can offerings such as Critical Hit (released in January), another Imperial Stout brewed with chicory, coffee cherries and golden raisins, will be intentionally limited to keep the proverbial “creative juices flowing”, and keep customers excited and guessing on what’s to come. “For us, we will continue to offer every-day traditional styles like lagers and pale ales, but we also want people to try some of our more eccentric, New Age recipes and cans are a great vessel for this,” stated O’Connor. Another surprise 16oz can edition to be released in early 2019 includes brewery fan-favorite, Heavy Footer Double IPA. This traditional double IPA is packed with hop flavor, and cans do a great job of preserving flavor so, why not put it in a can?
Cans are the most-recycled beverage container in the U.S., and are made from almost 70% recycled materials. For breweries, having an in-house canning line also ensures superior quality control, flexibility for more frequent and small-batch can runs, as well as fresher beer hitting the market. In addition to continuing to offer their popular El Guapo Agave IPA in a 16oz can year-round, beer enthusiasts can expect to see many more new and different can offerings from the brewery in 2019, many of which will only be available for purchase at the brewery. We already caught a glimpse of several new and limited can releases last year including their Pampered Palate Juicy TIPA, a hazy, triple IPA packed with tropical hop flavor, and People Power, a grapefruit and raspberry Gose-style brewed to raise funds for the ACLU. Other 2018 can offerings by OBC included their Endless Saison series, Tart Tropicale, and Save the Cans.
