Vote Local Norfolk has invited the candidates for Norfolk City Council to a relatively informal, perhaps unorthodox event at O’Connor Brewing Company on April 27th from 6PM until 8PM.
Why a brewery? Who has ever asked to meet at a library to talk shop and how many people were excited about it? (Granted, the Slover is a really great space if the event has to be dry.)
To open the event, each candidate will have a short stump speech. The speed-dating session begins after the stumping is done. Attendees will be divided into smaller groups that get a chance to talk to each candidate for a few minutes (so keep the existential questions to a minimum). After the last speed-date there follows a general mingling until the brewery closes at 8.
We hope this event will give candidates and voters a chance to loosen up and really get to know one another – and no matter what, it will just be a fun community event for a Wednesday evening. And remember that OBC is open to all ages all of the time and even has a children’s play area, so please do not hesitate to bring the family, bring friends, have a drink, have a little civic engagement, and don’t forget to vote on May 3rd.
