The fictional a cappella group the Barden Bellas, of the popular movie franchise Pitch Perfect, are not the only “cool” a cappella singers around.
Semi-Toned is the University of Exeter’s all male “a cappella sensation.” They will be performing as part of the Virginia Arts Festival on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 pm at Norfolk Academy.
The “boys in burgundy” were finalists of “Sing: Ultimate A Cappella” on Sky 1 TV in Great Britain, perform each year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and are the only a cappella group to receive the prestigious Bobby Award from Broadway Baby. http://broadwaybaby.com/index.php
The twelve-man group isn’t afraid to take on Queen Bey. They performed Beyoncé’s 7/11 when they “stormed to victory” on the BBC2 program “The Choir: Gareth’s Best in Britain.”
The twelve men sing and dance their way around all kinds of music from Beyoncé to Justin Timberlake:
to Pharrell Williams:
to R. Kelly:
Semi-Toned travel the world singing, but they are also full time students at the University of Exeter. Alfie Davis, Tour Manager and Baritone, is studying English. Greg Munday, Co-Business Manager and Tenor 2 from Ireland, is studying physics and astrophysics. Jacob Westbrook, Baritone, is in his first year with Semi-Toned. He is studying politics and philosophy. All twelve men share the joy of creating music with their voices alone. Come and share the joy.
