There is something going on every summer weekend in Hampton Roads. If you want to do next weekend at the beach with great music, head to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront at 5th Street for the Union Bank & Trust 2019 Patriotic Festival.
This is a three-day festival of live music on the sand to honor all branches of the military with military demos and exhibits. If you are a country music fan, it’s a star-studded lineup.
The Patriotic Festival kicks off on Friday with Old Dominion,
winners of the 2018 CMA Award for Vocal Group of the Year and the 2019 ACM Award for Vocal Group of the Year. Old Dominion is a Virginia-based country band, who write for their own group and other country stars like Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton and Dierks Bentley.
The band is “influenced as much by rock and pop as by country” “We love feel-good songs,” lead singer Matthew Ramsey says. “Sometimes you just want to put on something that makes you smile.”
Old Dominion will bring special guests Morgan Evans, Brandon Lay and DJ Ty Street. The gates will open at 4:00 pm on Friday. The show starts at 7:00.
The featured performer on Saturday will be Luke Combs,
a multi-platinum, No. 1 country singer-songwriter from Ashville, NC. This guy has won every “New Artist of the Year” award in country music in the last year. He is in the middle of his “Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour” – his first headline arena tour. DJ Ty Street will return for Saturday night, along with special guests Muscadine Bloodline and Faren Rachels.
On Sunday, June 2, Kane Brown will take the stage. He won the 2018 American Country Music Awards Favorite Male Country Artist, Favorite Country Album and Favorite Country Song. That song was “Heaven”, a soulful song full of romance. He is also a singer-songwriter, who came from working at Lowe’s to winning awards. He says, “I stay away from the negative and that’s why I am so happy in my life.” He is the “next-generation star” in country music. His special guests will be Ryan Hurd and Alec Edmonds with DJ Ty Street.
All three of these country music super stars will be heading to Nashville from Virginia Beach for the 2019 CMT Awards on June 5. They are all nominated for multiple awards. You can see them live at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront next weekend.
In addition to the great music, there will be military demonstrations and exhibits from all branches of the military in the “Military Zone”. There will be a display of military vehicles, USO Military Expo and USO shows.
