The beauty of living in an area so close to farmland is the potential for seasonal goodies all around the 757. But the markets around here don’t just offer fresh delights, you can enjoy locally-made goods, activities, and more.
The large Chesapeake Farmers Market at City Hall offers more than just farm goods. There are educational activities, learn about community groups, as well as shop from local farms. It runs May 25 to October 26 (with markets on November 16th and December 14th as well) from 8am to Noon on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
The Chesapeake Farmers’ Market at City Park is open from June 8 to November 27 on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm. It offers your standard farm eats.
The Western Branch Farmers Market offers entertainment, farm goods, honey, and more outside of the Chesapeake Square Mall. During certain seasons, they also have arts and crafts. This market runs on Sundays from noon to 4pm.
The Hampton Blvd. Farmers Market advertise farm, food, and community, and it is easy to see why. Hosted at the Church of Good Shepherd on Hampton Blvd. each Wednesday (3-6pm, April through October), there is a plethora of goodies to be found.
The family-oriented Markets Fare at East Beach is offered on Saturdays from April 6th to December 21st and just keeps growing.
One not to be missed is the Riverview Village Days Artisan & Farmers’ Market. From April to December, twice a month (on the 2nd and 4th Sundays), you can park near the Virginia Zoo and enjoy over 65 artists, crafters, farmers, antiques, food vendors, and even a food truck rodeo.
Westside Produce & Provisions is located not far from Old Dominion University in Norfolk. This indoor shop has a garden in the back for snipping fresh goods, and inside, hosts delights from local farms including produce, meat, cheeses, breads, and even locally made wines.
Each Saturday, from May 4th to October 26th, from 9am to 1pm, you can shop the Olde Towne Portsmouth Farmers Market for produce, bread, pastries, jams, salsas, plants, flowers, soaps, and more.
Open 9am to noon every Saturday from April to November, you can shop the Smithfeild Farmers Market. Many goods are offered, but come on people, it is Smithfield, you can totally get ham here. Check the website for specialty market dates and other local markets connected to this one.
Not only can you shop local goods and foods here, they also offer entertainment like family fun days, guest speakers, performers, petting zoos, book signings, and more. The Suffolk Farmers’ Market happens in downtown Suffolk on Saturdays.
The King’s Grant Farmers Market is offered twice a month on Thursdays on Little Neck Road from 4-7pm. This local, little gem is worth a stop.
On most Saturdays in season, check website for details, near the Oceanfront, you can peruse the Old Beach Farmers Market (9am to noon), featuring produce, meats, dairy items, baked goods, bread, prepared food items, soap, flowers, and more.
Another one worth a stop is the Shore Drive Farm Market. This shopping experience is offered each Saturday from 9am to noon.
For a combination of fun, food, and goods, you can’t get much better than the Virginia Beach Farmers Market. Seasonally, there is a carnival for kids, but year-round, there are events, food vendors, restaurants, and educational programs.
The Buckroe Beach Farmers Market runs 9am to 1pm from May through mid-November on Saturdays. You can shop produce, baked goods, meats, seafood, and more.
Since 1967, Dean & Don’s Farm Market has offered locally-grown items in Newport News. Open from April to October for the regular market, and November to December for Christmas Trees. Hours run Monday through Saturday, 8am to 7pm.
From May to September, each Thursday from 10am to 2pm, you can enjoy a lively market at the Farmers Market at City Center. There is produce, fruit, baked goods, meat, seafood, dairy products, soaps, lotions, jams, flowers, and so much more.
Grab honey, meat, nuts, baked goods, plants, flowers, and more while enjoying music at the Williamsburg Farmers Market. The market runs Saturdays from 8am to noon, and the music plays from 9am to 11am.
This market is super fun because they offer different themes on special weeks. Market Days takes place next to the York River with live music every week, food trucks, demonstrations, artists, and more. The season runs Saturdays, April to October from 8am to noon.
