Justin Moore is thriving in the country music scene with hits singles including “Small Town USA,” “If Heaven Wasn’t So Far Away,” “Til My Last Day,” and “Somebody Else Will.”
Editor’s note: This concert in Norfolk has been cancelled, according to the venue.
Moore is headed to Norfolk on February 9th as part of his current Hell on a Highway Tour. Moore said the tour, which just kicked off, is going well so far.
“We haven’t screwed anything up too bad,” Moore said. “Just finished the first weekend of shows in 2018, did a few in 2017 to get our feet wet and work the kinks out. We’re having a good time and looking forward to coming that way!”
More than a musician, Moore is first and foremost a family man. He has three daughters and his wife gave birth to his first son in 2017. Luckily, Moore doesn’t have to miss out on much due to life on tour.
“Country is a little different than other genres,” Moore said. “On a normal week we are home 2-3 nights a week and then pay about 3 shows a week. I can still coach my kids’ ball games.”
Moore said on occasion his three year old daughter will come to shows with him but mostly, he’s glad his touring schedule allows him to still be a loving father. Moore’s son, Thomas, is currently getting his first teeth.
“Not a lot of sleeping going on lately but he is great,” Moore said. “He’s the biggest of all our kids, we don’t know if he will stay that way but right now he’s doing good!”
Moore is heavily involved in the songwriting process for all of the songs on his album and cares deeply about how his music touches his fans.
“It’s proven over the years that if something is personal to me, it’s personal to the masses,” he said. “Anything I do, sing, or speak that has a positive effect on somebody and their life it’s a huge blessing to me.”
Most of Moore’s inspiration for his music can be mapped back to everyday life.
“I am fortunate that God gave me the ability to put life experiences to music and the ability to sing it on key,” Moore said. “The best songs are written about the stuff people are going through. I try to keep an ear open to life happening around me.”
