Ever wanted to talk about research? Science Pubs ODU is an opportunity for the community to talk with researchers in an informal setting. Join us for a lively and engaging discussion; a curious mind is all that’s needed! The Pub locations and topics change with each event.
On August 29th, 2018 you can join the discussion at Bold Mariner Brewing Company located at 2409 Bowdens Ferry Road in Norfolk, VA. The Networking begins at 6:00 pm and the program starts at 6:30 pm so don’t be late!
Please RSVP by August 27th at http://bitly/SciPubsODU
Dave and Dan’s day jobs are both with the Department of Biological Sciences. While their research areas vary, they share a passion for beer and the science behind its creation.
Beer is one of the oldest fermented beverages enjoyed by humans, and has also been involved in some of the greatest scientific discoveries in history.
The science of brewing encompasses microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, and a great deal of engineering, and brewing great beer has come to rely heavily on work in these fields.
Dan Barshis and Dave Gauthier, both avid homebrewers and instructors of the ODU Zymology summer course, will give a talk on some interesting points of brewing science history, and discuss some of the latest science behind this culturally important beverage.
