The City of Norfolk and Norfolk Public Schools have opened a parking garage and school parking lots for residents in flood-prone areas to relocate their vehicles.
The City of Norfolk has opened the York Street parking garage located at 215 West York Street. Residents interested in moving their vehicles can do so beginning at 8:00 a.m. Saturday, September 26th. All vehicles MUST be removed by 8:00 a.m. Monday, September 28th.
Residents can also park in the following school parking lots: Granby High School, Norview High School, Willard Model Elementary and Poplar Hall Elementary. All vehicles MUST be removed before school opens on Monday morning.
Public Works crews closed the pedestrian flood gates at Nauticus and Brooke Street around 4:00 p.m. today. The public will be notified if the downtown flood gate to the National Maritime Center is closed.
Norfolk public safety personnel want to remind drivers to avoid driving through flooded roads.
