My favorite local blog is the Brew Happenings in the 757 blog, which does a great job of covering steal the pint nights and limited beerreleases for craft breweries in the area. The author really seems to
have the pulse on what great beer events are upcoming. Check it out here.
Maybe you’re interested in becoming more than just a craft beer drinker? There is a ton of potential to become a beer judge or certified taster. One of my favorite local beer clubs, Hampton Roads Brewing and Tasting Society, does a great job at giving members the resources to learn more about beer tasting and take the next steps to judge competitions and taste beers on an official level.
Barley’s Angels – Coastal Virginia is a great group for ladies that are looking to enjoy some beers with other women who are interested in craft beer. For more on them, click here.
Maybe you’re interested in learning more about the complexities of making your own beer? Seven Cities Brewers is a club that is very knowledgeable on everything related to making your own beer and how to improve recipes and brewing processes.
There are also a ton of great upcoming classes on beer making. This weekend starts a four week educational homebrewing series I’m involved with, from Drink Tank and 757Makerspace. Courses include How to Create Your Own Beer Recipe, Grain Properties, Yeast Properties, and How to Brew and All Grain Beer. Tickets are still available here.
Another class soon after Drink Tank’s courses is a Zymology Course being taught at ODU by Dr.Dan Barshis, which will be a great resource to augment the precursor Yeast Course at Drink Tank, also taught by Dr. Barshis. Check back for more info on that event.
