NORFOLK, VA. (April 16, 2019) – Soak up the sun this month at the Hermitage Museum & Gardens’ 5th Annual Gymkhana on Sunday, April 28 from 11 to 3 p.m. This year’s event will feature lawn games, a costume puppy parade, live music, lunch from local food trucks, and the annual bocce tournament throughout the Hermitage gardens. The museum will also be open with free admission through 3 p.m.
Gymkhana is hosted by the Hermitage Young Associates Board and is modeled after an historic field day the Sloane family hosted. Guests can enjoy lunch on the lawn with food and beverages available for purchase from Cast Iron and Plaza Del Sol in addition to Smartmouth Beer and Belle Isle Moonshine.
This will be the first year the event has included a Costume Puppy Parade. Guests can bring their dogs dressed up for a chance to win a two night stay at Dogtown. Check in begins at 1 p.m. with the parade starting at 2 p.m.
This year’s entertainment is Virginia Beach-based group FOX and the BEAR, an indie folk sister duo known for their powerful harmonies and original music.
The annual Bocce Tournament will begin at 11:30 a.m. Players can register for the tournament for $20 per player or $30 for a team of two, each registration includes one drink ticket. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place teams. Costumes and uniforms are encouraged.
The Hermitage Museum & Gardens is a waterfront estate located in Norfolk, Virginia. The museum was founded by William and Florence Sloane in 1937 and includes their collection of fine and decorative art housed in an Arts and Crafts style mansion. The Sloane Collection spans 5,000 years, represents 30 countries, and includes over 5,000 objects. The Hermitage offers exhibitions, outdoor concerts, year-round classes and art camp, gardens and wooded walking trails, and is a popular location for weddings and private events.
