Not only is the scenery captivating and diverse, so too are the plethora of activities found at each campground that are perfect for the individual, couple, family, or even large groups. For the athletic type, there are many Virginia State Park campgrounds that include swimming pools, tennis and volleyball courts, bicycle rentals, horseback riding, fishing spots, hiking trails, canoes, and kayaks. There are also many waterfalls and cliffs that can be found throughout some campgrounds that can sometimes be the perfect jumping spots for those who dare to be brave.
If serenity and relaxation is more of your forte, there are plenty of locations that provide bald eagle exhibits, perfect picnic spots, boat rentals, and natural tunnels. And do not worry!! If the wilderness and sleeping in a tent does not sound enticing, there are several areas with electric and water hookups, cabins, lodges, and RVs; there truly are campgrounds for every type of person!
Whether taking a camping trip by a river, in the mountains, in a tent, or in a cabin, there are a few camping essentials that are pretty necessary for a good stay. Number one on the list: bug spray!! Bug spray is vital for a comfortable, relaxing time. Be sure to purchase one that keeps tics away. Other important tools are flashlights and/or lanterns, fire starter, an axe, a good pair of shoes, lots of water, and lots of food. Keep in mind that even in the late summer/early fall, it can get pretty chilly when the sun goes down, so proper clothing is very important.
With all the proper gear and supplies, any Virginia camping trip will be one for the books.
