Good News! Elizabeth River Bike Trail to Re-Open Key Stretch

November 9, 2016 By City of Norfolk

Join us for the grand reopening of the Elizabeth River Trail over the new Midtown Tunnel.

ertmap

Since February 2013, the Elizabeth River Trail was detoured down Redgate through the Hague to allow for the expansion of the Midtown Tunnel.

The grand reopening of this key stretch of the trail takes place Thursday, Nov 10, at 4pm, featuring a new redesigned bridge crossing.

This will lead to future connections to #NorfolkVA’s bike loop. Check out the map of the entire trail here.

The new bridge will enhance the 10.5 mile Elizabeth River Trail, connecting visitors, residents and businesses to all that makes Norfolk an authentic & diverse urban waterfront community.

City of Norfolk
City of Norfolk
Norfolk, Virginia was named a 2013 All-America City by the National Civic League. It is a city of some 245,803 residents and more than 100 diverse neighborhoods. It is the cultural, educational, business and medical center of Hampton Roads, hosts the world's largest naval base, the region's international airport and is one of the busiest international ports on the East Coast of the United States.

Founded in 1682, Norfolk grew up on the water, and its miles of lake, river and bay front are central to many of its neighborhoods. The city's popular logo -- an elegant young mermaid, which can be spotted in outdoor sites from Downtown to Ocean View -- symbolizes 300 years of maritime and naval heritage and its modern reputation as a city on the move.
