The Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia (TAP VA) along with New Life MCC, LGBT Life Center, PFLAG Norfolk/South Hampton Roads, the LGBTQAI Interfaith Group of Hampton Roads, Unitarian Church of Norfolk (Coastal Virginia Unitarian Universalists), and the Seven Cities Medic Collective are pleased to announce the first annual Hampton Roads Transgender Day of Visibility on April 7, 2018.
The event will be held at New Life Metropolitan Community Church (New Life MCC) 1000 Sunset Drive Norfolk, VA from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and will showcase the art and expression of local transgender and gender non-conforming artists.
Hampton Roads Transgender Day of Visibility is focused on all forms of art and talent. TAP VA believes that art and creativity are natural expressions of life and that every transgender and gender nonconforming person in the area has something to offer.
At the Hampton Roads Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), we seek to elevate and showcase the art and talents of the transgender and gender nonconforming community, empowering and celebrating transgender individuals, and spreading knowledge of transgender issues to the public. For TDOV, we define an artist as anyone with a creative spirit; you don’t need to be “professional” to participate! Transgender and gender non-conforming youth are also welcomed and encouraged to participate in this family friendly event.
Transgender artists will display their art and talents, including transgender individuals who run their own local businesses, transgender performers (poetry/spoken word/dance/music/etc.), and space will be provided for our Instructors to lead or engage the public in small group activities such as face painting, nail designs, photography, and creative writing. The sky is the limit!
Prospective volunteers and artists are encouraged to message Transgender Assistance Program of Virginia on their Facebook page, or email email@example.com. For more information on the LGBT Life Center, please visit www.lgbtlifecenter.org or call 757-640-0929.
