Though the dance world is typically quieter in the summer season, there are still several events to grab your attention, and tons of classes available to keep you moving.
TRDance will be holding dancer auditions for their summer TRD Ensemble on Monday, June 19th. The audition is open to advanced dancers ages 15 and up. Registration opens at 7pm at the TRDance Center on Granby Street; the audition will run from 7:30pm – 9:30pm. Dancers chosen for this Ensemble will be performing on August 11th and 12th at the Benjack Studio Theater inside the TRDance Center.
Travis Wall, launched to fame by his performances on “So You Think You Can Dance,” will be bringing his company Shaping Sound to Chrysler Hall on Tuesday, June 20th. Their new show, “After the Curtain” is a blend of dance and music styles, and presents the story of a grieving man searching for inspiration. The show begins at 8pm.
Every Thursday and Friday nights, Swing Virginia holds swing dance socials. Thursdays are at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, and Fridays are at Dave and Buster’s in Virginia Beach. Both nights begin at 7pm with a beginner lesson to get everyone started, followed by an open dance social beginning at 8pm.
The Mambo Room’s July Bachata social will feature Voz a Voz, a Grammy nominated pop-vocal group from the Dominican Republic, performing live for the event on July 8th. Doors will open at 8pm, a beginning Bachata lesson will run from 8:30-9:30pm, and then the social dance and concert will continue until 2am.
