Change Your World with AltDaily
The purpose of AltDaily is simple: to act as a force for bettering our community. We love Hampton Roads, and we exercise that love by trying to push this region to be even more physically beautiful, local small business friendly, vibrant with arts, and full of passionate, engaged citizens.
WHAT TO SUBMIT
Unlike traditional media, AltDaily does not pretend to be objective: our stories tend to either be celebrating what a contributor loves, or offering suggestions for how an element of our community can be even better.
We like stories about local businesses, local artists, and favorite natural areas. Guides are great, particularly in a region as transient as ours. We also appreciate heartfelt and well-researched op-eds or Letters to the Editor about local issues you are passionate about, from mass transport to schools to any law you feel should be reformed.
If you are passionate about an issue, assume that others are too.
You are encouraged to write in the voice you would use in an email to an aunt or professor you respect, but are also friendly with: conversational, informed, blunt-but-not-rude, impassioned-but-balanced.
We do not use AP style in AltDaily, and we do not believe that any culture’s way of speaking/writing is greatest. We proudly publish articles in AltDaily from college professors and high school drop-outs alike.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Please submit the text in the body of an email and any images attached. Send to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Word length between 400 and 1,200 words, but more long or short is okay if that is what you think is most appropriate for the story.
A NOTE ON PAYMENT
AltDaily is driven by passion–and an absolutely bare bones business model in a ever-diversifying media landscape–so there is not payment for every article. There are regular paid opportunities for contributors, but rarely for a first article.
