“Mawwwwwwidge. Mawwwwwwidge is vat briiiings us togethhhher.”
Love was in the air last night at the NorVa as a couple who had won a contest kicked off 96X’s Winter Meltdown season with a marriage ceremony. They were adorable and fun and we wish them all the love and success in life.
The show itself was a rip-roaring good time with a home-field advantage for X Ambassadors, whose big break and sudden rocketing into stardom came courtesy of 96X dropping a song into rotation and the subsequent interest that generated. The band obviously has a great deal of affection for our town, and that love was paid back in spades with a packed crowd in attendance. The group played their favorite hits and showcased quite a bit of new work, with a new record waiting in the wings for release soon.
Opening act Welshly Arms was a surprise of the evening, with a throwback, soul-infused Blues Rock sound that was raucous and meaty. I definitely recommend this group for anyone who’s a fan of classic rock, but looking for a new take on the traditional approach. An Indie Pop band by the name of Aces preceded with an infectious energy that made them hard to dislike, even if the young group obviously has plenty of room to grow.
Winter Meltdown continues tonight at the NorVa with the Bleachers, and concludes December 8th at the TED with Paramore.
