You describe your heritage as ‘multi-ethnic’ in your artist bio; how does this influence and affect your work?
It influences my work in a big way. As I journeyed to learn more about my past, I found roots that are worlds away from anything I knew growing up. My father passed away when I was six years old and my mother never really spoke about her parents and origins. The more I looked into my past I also learn more and more how connected all human beings were. Most importantly, no matter where you originated on the planet, each culture used art to tell its story. Before there was written and oral history there has always been a need to express ones self artistically. There is so much we have learned about cultures long gone through the art they left behind be it cave drawings, sculptors, burial relics or pieces of pottery. There is still so much to learn about many cultures that still exist so I like use elements signs and symbols from many different cultures in one painting.
