What is it about portraiture that intrigues you? What do you think your strengths and weaknesses are when it comes to portraying people?
I am completely captivated by the human spirit. Individual experience is what molds a person’s character, making them unique, and that is what I find wonderfully beautiful. Overall, nature is the root of what inspires me in art and portraiture is my extension to explore human nature and its relationships. My main concern is the ability to capture a feeling or mood within the portrait, the essence of what the subject is experiencing at the time, which can equally be my strength or weakness depending on the outcome. What I find most fulfilling about portraits is the journey to completion. It becomes an interwoven yet simultaneous experience of understanding the subject, the craft, and myself as a human being.
