A Special Election for Virginia House of Delegates 85th District will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 10.
The race pits Norman “Rocky” Holcomb, a Republican and captain in the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, against Cheryl Turpin, a Democrat and public school teacher. More on the race here in the Pilot.

The Constitution of Virginia requires that voters be registered to vote in the precinct in which they live in order to be qualified to vote. Virginia Beach voters registered in the following precincts are eligible to vote in this election:
To be eligible to vote in the Special Election for Virginia House of Delegates – 85th District held on Tuesday, Jan. 10, voters must register no later than the close of business on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Any updates to your voter registration status must be made by Jan. 3.
Absentee ballot applications must be received by mail, email, or fax by 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 3. Saturday, Jan. 7, is the last day for absentee voting in person.

In-Person Voter Registration is available at the Voter Registration & Elections office during normal hours of operation, all Virginia Beach Public Library locations, and Virginia Beach Department of Motor Vehicles Offices (in conjunction with DMV transactions).
Mail Voter Registration forms are available at Virginia Beach City Public Schools, U.S. Post Offices, Community Recreation Centers and Offices of the City Treasurer, Clerk of the Circuit Court, and Commissioner of the Revenue.
Mailed voter registration applications must be post-marked on or before Tuesday, Jan. 3.
