Much has been made of the national election of Donald Trump, but your local and state elected officials impact your life just as much, if not more than the top office in the land.
For many of you reading who live in the 6th Senate District, your state senator is a man named Lynwood Lewis, and he’s interested in hearing about your priorities for the upcoming General Assembly session, which convenes Wednesday, January 11, 2017.
“Your legislators are in Richmond to represent you,” said Lewis’ legislative aide, Jessie Lynn Williams. “Town halls and public forums are an opportunity for you, as constituents and Virginians, to express your concerns and requests for the kinds of action, legislation and reform you want to see your elected representatives tackle.”
The pre-General Assembly town hall will take place tomorrow, Tuesday January 3rd, from 6 PM – 7:30 PM at Mary D Pretlow Branch Norfolk Public Library in Ocean View.
Attendees will be free to bring up any relevant topic that they like. It is expected that at this year’s GA solar power is going to be a hot topic, as is redistricting (Lewis is patroning a pretty comprehensive redistricting bill), along with sea level rise and coastal flooding.
“This is a great chance for you to begin – or continue – to form relationships with your elected officials, as well as to find out more about the legislative process and priorities in the region and the state,” said Williams. “It is important to remember that you, as voters and/or constituents, are absolutely necessary to a successful General Assembly session. Your elected officials value your thoughts and opinions, and want to hear your personal stories.”
