Everything starts as a dream that could fit on a cocktail napkin.
Be it a brewery like O’Connor’s, a new spin on an old neighborhood like the NEON, a small business movement like Start Norfolk, or a community game like Survive Norfolk, every idea has to begin somewhere.
Along with finding more vital soldiers for the daily grind of making our city better, we need to also encourage the dreamers.
Engage Norfolk — a civic engagement fair next Sunday, February 12, from 1 to 5pm at Lakewood — is providing a venue to share the best big ideas with your peers here in Norfolk.
UPDATE: Due to the amount of great ideas we have received, we have decided to make this its own event. Details to come in the near future.
It could be thoughts on rapidly increasing bike usage in Norfolk, or an idea for a brand new park. Could be a transformational new business or industry, or a clever way of adapting to sea level rise. We don’t know what people are dreaming about until we ask them.
Presenters will get 10 minutes to pitch their dream. We will determine who gets these slots by having interested parties submit proposals, which will be vetted by the organizational committee.
If you have a great idea, send three to five paragraphs to firstname.lastname@example.org by the end of day on Monday, February 6th.
Engage Norfolk is brought to you by the good folks at AltDaily.com and councilwoman Andria McClellan, with Volunteer Hampton Roads and the New Journal & Guide.
