This weekend, symphony synthesizes with circus to create an extravagant and whimsical performance: Cirque Musica.
The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will combine some of the most talented musicians in the world with some of the best performers, acrobats, and artists for a performance they promise will be a “high-flying, fun-filled, edge-of-your-seat musical adventure.”
Saturday’s performance will fuse together artists of a multitude of genres, and the results should be spectacular.
With its home in Norfolk, the Virginia Symphony Orchestra has been performing throughout Hampton Roads for over 90 years. The VSO is so much more than just beautiful classical music. They perform over 140 concerts every season, appealing to a broad spectrum of the community. The VSO has a phenomenal Outreach program for students; Family programs for children of all ages; and Pops performances with a twist.
The VSO just wrapped up their summer Symphony By the Sea series –free concerts at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. This series is a personal favorite of mine. It’s magical to sit under the stars or stroll by the ocean while listening to beautiful music. As a relatively young classical music fan, I love how this series draws so many people who might not otherwise attend a symphony performance; lots of tourists, teenagers, all demographics. Plus, they’re usually a fun twist, combining both classical music with modern favorite such as music from the Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Wars. With the series ending, I wondered what, if anything, would be appealing to me next. As always, the VSO surpasses expectations with their imaginative and vibrant Cirque Musica (and with the upcoming Music of Harry Potter concert.)
Cirque Musica promises to be an exciting event you won’t want to miss. This Saturday it will be held at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk and this Sunday there will be a special Cirque Musica For Kids at the Sandler Center in Virginia Beach.
Tickets start at just $25. For more information, go here.
