The rockets’ red glare were clearly evident as I took in the view overlooking Town Point Park in downtown Norfolk for Sunday’s rescheduled fireworks celebration.

The skies were clear and the slight wind was, thankfully, blowing away from my vantage point which allowed me, and a small handful of other observers, to appreciate the show from a point of view that not many get to experience.

The fireworks were larger than life, filling the darkened sky with explosions of color, the booming echos sounding off of the buildings around me, yet I was still able to hear the crowds cheers, so far down below me, as anticipation turned to wonder and excitement.

The crackle, sizzle, whistle and report of a phenomenal show made me want for it to continue throughout the night, but as that last bomb did burst in the air, and the crowds voice spoke as one, I too was reminded that we do live in the land of the free, and the home of the brave.
