Hampton Roads rocks, and it has for a long time. But who is the next local band that’s going to come up as a big name in the local rock scene?
We may get a chance to find out on Saturday with the 757 Rock Rookies show at the NorVa, as part of AltDaily’s Local Music Concert Series.
The line-up includes Starcoast, Truss, The FoxSmiths, Under The Bridge, and Bonne Chere.
“It’s like you’re super stoked to be going to the beach but then after the sun sets you just lay on the ground completely overwhelmed with how endlessly expansive the universe is,” said the guys from Starcoast when asked to describe their sound.
What it means to ‘make it’ in the music business has evolved in recent years, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
“It’s all about the creative process and being able to do what we love, writing music, without any external limitations,” said Starcost. “If we can write a song that we’re happy with then that’s success to us. If people like our music then we’re absolutely grateful, but the bottom line is that we’re happy with what we create ourselves.”
Like a lot of musicians, it’s hard for Under the Bridge to pin down their sound in just a few words.
“As a genre we’re somewhere around melodic punk rock (give or take an “alternative” or “fast paced rock n’ roll”),” they said. “But when we want to make new friends and fans we like to describe ourselves as an intense, musically melodic, ‘good times’ atmosphere that will keep you entertained and coming back for more. We’re fun, friendly, and want you to come experience an energetic passion for music that you’ll hopefully love as much as we do.”
Decide for yourself:
A few of the bands of the line-up feel almost brought together by fate — or so it felt when they initially came together to create.
“The first time we ever got together to jam was an immediate sense of awe,” said the guys from Truss, who compare themselves to Fall Out Boy and Maroon 5. “We immediately knew we had something special and something that we could build into the band you see today.”
Truss isn’t satisfied with playing shows now and again. They want this to be their lives.
“Success for Truss will be the self gratification of doing what we love everyday and being able to live off of it,” they said.
This Saturday on the biggest stage in Hampton Roads, you can be a part of their story. Come out and rock.
The show is this Saturday, April 9th, starting at 6:30pm. For more info or for tickets, click here.
