More than 200 professionals, reentry advocates and former offenders from Norfolk and/or their family members will come together for the 4th Annual Community Collaborations Reentry Summit on Monday, October 16, 2017 from 9:00 am – 4:30 pm at Old Dominion University’s Constant Convocation Center.
The summit is designed to foster new, and strengthen existing, partnerships and provide an opportunity to share best practices related to the Prisoner Reentry field.
Congressman Bobby Scott will provide the keynote address. Other featured speakers include Harold W. Clarke, Director of Virginia Department of Corrections, ODU Vice Provost Brian Payne, and Norfolk Director of Human Services Steve Hawks.
Portsmouth native Derrick Beamon, a playwright and former offender, will moderate a panel of former offenders during an afternoon session.
Breakout sessions include: Findings on Re-entry Employment from an Employer’s Perspective; Soft Skills Every Returning Citizen Needs; Cultural Awareness and Implicit Bias; Pathways for a Successful Return Home; and Nurturing Beyond Bars.
The Community Collaborations Reentry Summit is sponsored by the Norfolk Reentry Council in partnership with Old Dominion University and the Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice.
