In conjunction with the “Under the Gun” exhibit, Work|Release and the Chrysler Museum are teaming up to sponsor a Student Poster Contest, so that area middle and high school students can add their voices and creative expression to the dialogue about gun violence.
The deadline is Friday, January 20, and submissions may be dropped off or mailed to Work|Release at 759 Granby Street.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners: $150 (1st), $100 (2nd), and $50 (3rd).
All entrants will be invited to a special art tour on Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon. The tour, which will begin at the Chrysler Museum, will be conducted by the Chrysler’s Jonathan Markham and will feature the student art (displayed at the Museum) and a special tour of museum pieces that relate to social strife and artistic expression. The tour will then continue to Work|Release to view the “Under the Gun” exhibit on its closing day.
Young people, whose lives and families are too often impacted by gun violence, will have the last word of hope as we close this show and seek opportunities for continued dialogue and action in the months ahead.
