Do not be a “cotton-headed ninny muggins” and miss Elf the Musical this weekend at Chrysler Hall, Friday, December 16 through Sunday, December 18.
This perfectly funny family Christmas musical will have both Saturday and Sunday evening performances and matinees, for your little muggins that can’t stay up late.
If you loved Elf, the movie, and who doesn’t, then you will love Elf the Musical. Mark A. Harmon, who plays Buddy’s father, says, “Elf the Musical has everything that’s in the movie with some added Broadway pizazz. It’s goofy, it’s silly and it’s all kinds of fun.”
All your favorite Buddy songs and Buddy lines are in Elf the Musical. Mark A. Harmon plays Buddy’s “real” dad, Walter Hobbs. Walter is the Grinch of Elf. He’s an overworked, stressed out New Yorker who has neglected his family and lost the Christmas spirit. Buddy walks all day and all night from the North Pole to find Walter and then breaks out into his “I Love You Song.”
Mark tells me that the audience loves to sing along to the “I Love You Song.” There is also the department store song. Who among us hasn’t wanted to break out the “I’m in a Store and I’m Singing” song when you have had it with Christmas shopping?
Buddy is kind of tall for an elf, but has a bit of arrested development. He is big, lovable and goofy. It’s great when he finds “his” Santa in a department store and then realizes this guy isn’t the real deal. “ You sit on a throne of lies. You smell like beef and cheese. You don’t smell like the real Santa.”
Harmon has been at Chrysler Hall before, playing the Wizard in The Wizard of Oz. He’s been touring the country for the last three years in Elf, The Wizard of Oz and Mamma Mia. When he’s not on the road singing and dancing, he designs and builds websites and drives for Uber. He says he’s had some interesting people in the backseat of his car. Sometimes those people make him feel like a Grinch, but Mark loves playing Walter Hobbs.
Buddy’s pure joy and love help Walter and all of New York find their Christmas spirit. Find your Christmas spirit this weekend at Elf the Musical. You will have so much fun.
