Norfolk Nighthawks, a free recreation program that provides a safe space and enrichment opportunities for young people 18+, kickoffs the 2017 season this Friday.
The Norfolk men’s and women’s adult basketball leagues will open with all-star games, beginning at 9:30 p.m. at the Norview Community Center. A skills competition will follow the games. Mayor Kenneth Cooper Alexander and members of Council will participate in the tip-off.
Nighthawks runs through the summer at locations throughout Norfolk. The program expanded this summer to new locations at East Ocean View and Lamberts Point Community Centers. All sessions are Friday and Saturday nights from 9:00 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. at the following locations.
- Begins June 23 @ Huntersville & Berkley Community Centers for nine weeks
- Begins June 23 @ Norview Community Center for three weeks
- July 14 & 15 @ East Ocean View Community Center
- July 21 & 22 @ Lamberts Point Community Center
Participants will find more than basketball. Nighthawks programs include a variety of fitness and skills development activities. These include Mixxed Fit classes, Hip Hop and Line Dance classes, voter registration, food handler’s classes, board and card game tournaments, and more.
