Pilot Media is partnering with Code for Hampton Roads on the prototype for a web application that will help match voters with the candidate whose values align most closely with their own.
The project is in beta form, so we are starting small with the Norfolk election on May 3, 2016. On that date the people will elect a new mayor, will choose leadership for both city council super ward seats, and will vote for school board members for the first time in the city’s history.
Democracy is all about you, the voting citizen, so we need your help developing the questions (and answers).
In order to force candidates into answers of some decisiveness the questions cannot be open-ended; there must be multiple response options for each question. Here is an example of how things could look:
We encourage you to ask whatever question will help you determine who is the candidate best positioned to lead Norfolk into a beautiful future. Categories might include economic development, public safety, education, transportation, public health, or sea level rise, but again, we encourage you to ask the questions you want the answer to.
Note: There will also be a weighting factor for each question–how important is this issue to you–but this will be standardized for each, so don’t worry about it.
Please leave your suggestions in the comments.
