As a Virginia Beach youth that was enamored with recycled fashion and treasure hunting, it seems fitting to whip up a list of my favorite thrift haunts in Hampton Roads for the public.
From vintage jams to furniture, records to craft supplies, here’s a curated list of my favorite Hampton Roads thrifts!
5524 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462
Every Wednesday, all clothes are 50% off at all locations! This particular location is massive in size, has an excellent book room and offers a ton of furniture. I’ve also found great selections of women’s shoes and men’s vintage here. If you’ve got a morning off, head there when it opens to avoid the wild lines.
5517 Virginia Beach Blvd, Virginia Beach, VA 23462
The DAV thrift is a favorite place for accessories. I always found great shoes, vintage scarves, hats & gloves at this spot. It’s also got a quirky photo frame/print collection that I’ve been buying from for years. Good for small electronics and occasionally great outdoor furniture. Go early, this place can get really cramped because it’s a small joint.
Family Thrift Center
5393 Wesleyan Drive Virginia Beach, VA 23455
Family Thrift is huge and full of so much stuff! If you take your time, it’s a real treasure hunt in this place. I’ve found a bunch of neat blankets/ throws, excellent things to make crafts out of and a cool collection of film cameras. They’ve got a boutique rack that is a little pricey but really fun to look through.
CHKD • 5254 Fairfield Shopping Center, Virginia Beach • Great for women’s blouses & skirts.
Second Chance Thrift • 5193 Shore Dr Virginia Beach • Decent place to find vintage furniture.
Goodwill • 6531 College Park Square, Virginia Beach • Dresses, shoes & belts!
Thrift Store USA
875 E Little Creek Rd Norfolk, VA 23518
This thrift store is huge! Great vintage section along with a room of quirky antiques. Housewares are always pretty great along with a consistently changing shoe/boot selection. Weird record/book room is super fun to skim, I’ve found amazing DIY books here. Thrift Store USA is a beloved Norfolk staple, come often and bring friends!
Thrift Store City
1760 E Little Creek Rd, Norfolk, VA 23518
Massive selection of shoes, housewares and craft supplies! I’ve gotten a few blenders here and if you search well, you’re bound to find some good modern threads! Don’t forget to take a quick look around at the goods on the jewelry counter, always silly treasures there.
Honorable mentions –
BEST THRIFT • 415 N Military Hwy, Norfolk • Great vintage electronics.
HOPE HOUSE • 1800 Monticello Ave, Norfolk • Amazing prices for the pickin’
Good Mojo • 2411 Granby Street, Norfolk • Fun housewares and fancy dresses!
Union Mission Ministries • 5100 E Virginia Beach Blvd Norfolk • This thrift isn’t as popular as the others but I’ve gone often the past few years and have stumbled upon 50% off the entire store multiple times!
901 Eden Way N Chesapeake, VA 23320
Great location if you’re out having a shopping day in Greenbrier. 50% off clothing every Wednesday, this particular location is good for small furniture items and housewares! I’ve also found a great selection of women’s coats during the winter seasons.
CHKD Thrift Store
1105 S Military Hwy, Chesapeake, VA
I love this CHKD for its proximity to GOODWILL (noted in the VB section) and it’s got a cool selection of goodies. 25% off entire purchases every Tuesday, this place is good for housewares, men’s clothes and knickknacks.
Now & Then Flea Market
2141 Campostella Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23324
This is a great hole in the wall spot for kitchen wares and trinkets. Chesapeake treasure hunters have their own sections in this tiny flea market and I almost always walk away with at least 5 new necklaces or glassware.
4209 W Mercury Blvd Hampton, VA
This DAV has a great selection of household items and books. They have amazing prices and the store itself is pretty big. Perfect for a leisure thrift day!
Goodwill/ Goodwill outlet
1911 Saville Row Hampton, VA
There are two separate parts of this Goodwill, a retail shop and an outlet shop. The outlet is massive with tons of bins and requires patience and lots of digging. This is a great thrift for treasure hunters.
9614 Warwick Blvd Newport News, VA
This place is awesome if you’re working on renovating or home projects. This place is full of tile/carpet remnants, lighting, wires, paints & other construction project related stuff. The one in Norfolk even has an outdoor toilet and bathtub section.
12436 Warwick Blvd, Newport News, VA
This little place seems to be the darling thrift of Newport News. It’s quaint but the finds are usually pretty great. Come early!
Suffolk / Portsmouth
Victory Home Thrift
2012 Victory Blvd, Portsmouth, VA
This is a family friendly, clean and charming thrift spot. With an interactive FB page and a slew of positive reviews, Victory Home is on my places to visit ASAP!
Thrift Store City
1917 Victory Blvd, Portsmouth, VA
I’m guessing this shop is similar to the one in Norfolk because I’ve heard great things about it. Great selection of shoes and the prices are pretty low. Sounds like a great spot to me!
PTown Thrift • 3935 Turnpike Rd, Portsmouth
Goodwill on High Street • 3110 High St, Portsmouth, VA
