At “Build the City: Minecraft Madness” children become architects and builders to construct a large-scale model of downtown Hampton. The construction will now take place in the museum’s Great Hall and lobby. The finished building models will be displayed in the museum’s courtyard.
The event will take place at the Hampton History Museum at 120 Old Hampton Lane in Downtown Hampton on Saturday, March 11, from 10:00 am – 2:00 p.m..
Using cardboard boxes and other recyclable materials, teams of children will construct the buildings of downtown Hampton in the art style of Minecraft. There is no set age range; the entire family is encouraged to join the fun.
Sylvan Learning Center will set up a variety of k’nex bridges from their new engineering program, along with their LEGO carousel robot. In addition, they will have a LEGO guessing jar. Whoever is able to guess how many Legos are in the jar will win a free spot in Sylvan’s Minecraft Robotics class.
Thousands of LEGOs will be on hand to create buildings and other structures in a dedicated area.
The “Build the City” event is free. For this special day, admission to tour the museum’s exhibit galleries is $1.00.
The historic Hampton Carousel still will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for this special event. Rides are $1.00. The carousel opens for the season in April 2017. The carousel is just a couple of blocks from the museum at 602 Settlers Landing Rd next the Virginia Air & Space Center.
