“Get out and play!” the motto for the City of Norfolk Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space (RPOS), is the motivation behind #PokemonGoNFK, drawing young people to local parks.
As part of #PokemonGoNFK, RPOS is hosting Pokepalooza! on Thursday, August 4, at Lafayette Park (3500 Granby Street). It’s a special night of hunting as the park and restrooms remain open after-hours for some early evening fun. There are several Pokestops in the park along the playground, shelters, and at the rain garden of the Ernie Morgan Center, making it an ideal location to relax and catch ‘em all.
Lures will be up and running for the duration of the event. The first 125 players at the event will receive an L.E.D. glow-in-the-dark bracelet. Players will have a chance to win a Pokémon Go Survival Kit – slingback, RPOS water bottle, snacks, and a portable phone charger. The Norfolk-based Bodacious Pizza food truck will be on hand to satisfy hunters’ hunger.
“We are all big Pokémon players,” said owner Jackie Poutasse, “so we are excited to be out there.”
