City of Norfolk: Not at this time. The lot is for monthly permitted parkers only.
Are there still plans to add a line of on-street parking on Virginia Beach Blvd? If so, when?
Yes, this calendar year.
Will there also be a protected bike lane as part of this process?
Not at this time, unless there is substantial support for removal of on-street parking due to constraints of the right of way width.
Are there any plans or discussions surrounding making the former Cofer site parking, short term or long term?
There have been no change in plans since the last Arts District Design Charrette
Is the Cedar Grove lot open to customers and employees of arts district businesses?
This is under consideration. Historically it has been for permitted parkers, Bank of America employees and for the Cruise Terminal passengers.
Is there a map somewhere of all the public parking available for the neighborhood/downtown?
We’re currently revising the city’s parking website and work closely with DNC to provide parking information.
Anything else people should know about getting in and out of the district?
The district has the highest density of parking in the city when you combine public and private lots with on street parking, yet there seems to be a perception of a lack of parking. The city and property owners will have to collectively address this issue for a more fluid system amongst the asset owners.
This also means that 90 percent of the surface area in the district has impervious surfaces. This is a challenge and the city is working on some strategies to address this as part of our Coastal Resiliency Strategy to deal with flooding.
