For many of us, the holiday season means the return of heart-warming traditions. Seeing Clara, the Russian Bear and the Mouse King dance across the stage in The Nutcracker is a seasonal staple for many families, but what could make this beloved performance even better?
Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia, has teamed up with the Virginia Beach SPCA to bring “Pupcracker” to Chrysler Hall on Saturday, December 2nd at 2PM.
While this is the fifth consecutive year the Ballet has brought The Nutcracker to Hampton Roads, it is the first time for locals to catch Pupcracker. The performance will feature adoptable dogs, which attendees can meet before, during or after the show.
“We’ve had great success with Pupcracker in Richmond and are thrilled to bring this special performance to Norfolk,” said Brett Bonda, Managing Director, Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia. “Hampton Roads has welcomed us with open arms and as we continue to become woven into the fabric of the community here, we’re proud to partner with local groups, like the Virginia Beach SPCA, to make this a performance families will never forget.”
VBSPCA representatives will be available throughout the performance to discuss the adoption process. Care-A-Lot Pet Supply will also be on site and available to answer questions regarding the best products to use with adopted animals.
“We’re so excited for our newly formed partnership with Richmond Ballet and to have some of our adoptable friends join in the Pupcracker performance,” said Dia DuVernet, President & CEO, Virginia Beach SPCA. “We provide shelter and care to more than 3,500 animals each year and Pupcracker is another avenue for us to educate Hampton Roads residents about our mission and the extraordinary relationship that is formed when you adopt a pet.”
In addition to adoptable dogs, the production will feature nearly 90 local ballet students from more than 35 different Hampton Roads area and North Carolina dance schools, who will have the opportunity to perform alongside the Company’s professional dancers. The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will bring Peter Tchaikovsky’s score to life for all four performances.
The Nutcracker will be at Chrysler Hall from December 1st – 3rd. For tickets and more information, visit here.
