How do you balance teaching art courses and creating your own work?
The balance of creating my professional work and teaching is a difficult one and often requires late nights, understanding and supportive family and friends, and creative thinking. Some of the ways I am fortunate is that I am able to do a lot of my production at ODU in our very well supplied printshop. This has two major benefits, first I am able to do a lot of work in printmaking and photography that would be difficult to produce without the equipment and space the shop provides, and secondly I am in the printshop a lot of time outside of classes where I can assist and answer students questions directly on a more consistent basis. I also utilize my time between classes to do “little things” especially preparatory steps that would often require a special trip to the shop and take far more time out of my schedule.
