The Hillier Ignite Fitness Park will break ground at 36th Street on the beach Monday, May 16.
Construction will be performed by the S.B. Ballard Construction Company through June 1. Work will begin with initial site grading by the city’s Public Works Department.
For the safety of residents and visitors during construction, beach access will be prohibited from the 36th Street stairs and ramp and inside the fenced construction area.
Modeled after a fitness park in Santa Monica, the WPL-designed park will feature a variety of strength-training apparatuses and body-weight-based exercise equipment, including high bars, low bars, parallel bars, ropes, a level ring climber, slackline posts, swing-along rings, balance beam and multipurpose post. The City Council approved the park on March 15.
