13 Reasons to See the Play “boom” or the play “OR,” or Both

February 4, 2015 By Brendan Hoyle

From your humble director of both plays, “Double Dog” B. Hoyle.

1. You have a nascent fear of world destruction via comets. “boom” will help you realize that your newfound terror is entirely justified when, in the course of the play, a comet strikes the earth and kills everybody.

2. They’re short! Each play is between 75 and 85 minutes in duration. So you can check out some excellent theatre and still get to the bar/party/illicit rendezvous before 10:00.

3. You’re actually a fish disguised as a human. You’re secretly studying human culture and recently heard of this thing called “live theatre.” Not to worry, my secret fish friend, come on down and we’ll take care of you.

4. You really like watching people make out on chaise lounges, wooden benches, and the floor. There’s lots of making out in “OR,” – like all over the place. It’s super sexy time.

5. There are only 3 actors in each show.. .and they’re the same 3 actors! Allison Collins, Gregory Dragas, and Michelle Jenkins are out there working their asses off and absolutely killin’ it.  These are amazing performances by 3 local actors at the tops of their game.

6. After being bitten on the inner thigh by a new lover you have developed a strange and exciting thirst for human blood. Come to Generic Theater for either show. We shall slake your unholy thirst!.

7. Both plays are comedies, which means they’re funny.

8. Everyone who worked on the shows is a local. Everybody lives here, works here and loves here.

9. Both plays are performed at the Generic Theater, which means that we have to switch the set between each show from “boom” to “OR,” and vice versa. It’s a hell of a lot of work. Here’s what it looks like:

10. Generic Theater is within the boundary lines of the Norfolk Arts District as sketched out in The Norfolk Downtown Arts & Design District Revitalization Strategy. You love the Norfolk Arts District don’t you?!?!?

11. You just stole a priceless relic from an archeological dig and you need somewhere to hide while the Nazis scour Scope and Chrysler Hall looking for you. Head on down to Generic Theater, we’ll keep you hidden while you take in a play.

12. You want to impress someone on a date by taking them to a smart and funny play that is also sexy. Both these plays are like crazy aphrodisiacs. You’ll laugh… maybe hold hands… then, if you play your cards right, you’ll get busy.

13. You’re a ghost haunting Generic Theater ever since you were murdered down there by a fellow actor in 1987. It is your eternal curse. You can never leave. Enjoy the show!
